Day 3 Palamos – making hours

Jorick op't vliegveld in Eindhoven

Today is already the third day of the training here in Palamos, Spain. It was another sunny nice day and we’re really enjoying the weather out here! The aim of today was to make a lot of hours on the water since we only sailed for a few hours yesterday.

We went up early to find out the entire city of Palamos was abandoned, probably everybody was in the in church because most of the shops were closed…so we didn’t have any breakfast! Luckily after 10 minutes walking with Cor, the coach, a bakery and butchery were found so we had some supplies for the day. Since we were already off-route to the harbour we decided to look for a greengrocery so we could cook something for dinner, we ended up somewhere randomly to find a small supermarket which was open. Another advantage was that we could finally make some coffee which we were really longing for!

Back on the water, we started as usual with some up/downs just to get the technique up and ready. This is really going faster and faster every training day, the set-up is very fast, which keeps the spirit high. Unfortunately the port tack wasn’t the best one for today; we missed some height there in the up-winds but during the day it got slightly better. The down-winds are going really well, balance is sweet and we’re really gaining there. The only comment is that we could put some more aggression in some gybes and by the way also in tacks – never heard that one before –  so there’s something for the coming days to work on. In the afternoon we finally fixed a good internet connection so we can finally send some e-mails, check facebook and put our blogs of the last days online (sorry for the overload).

Just before my departure from Delft I was happily surprised with the delivery  of a package from Slovenia! Our neoprene socks and lycra’s had arrived just in time to board the plane. This however resulted in some small problems at the check in of Ryanair, as Jorick’s bag was a little bit to full according to the rules for cabin baggage. 2 t-shirts, a shirt, a sweater, another sweater a vest were put on under the jacket and shawl and 3 caps before his back “fitted” with some violence in the bag-size-checker of Ryan air.

See ya later !
