Training Palamos 2

Hello everybody,

At this moment we are both studying a lot and since I am a bit bored of looking at the slides, I have found a good reason to update the blog (In Student-Dutch: Soggen) which we didn’t do for a while sorry.

The first of January we took an early flight towards Palamos, so no parties for us since a trainings week was coming. Taco flew in via Basel since he took a special “height-stage” in between of the competition and the training camp. Together with Cor and the Belgium team Jorick flew in from Eindhoven airport. After they had picked-up Taco it was already getting dark, so we decided just to rig the boat and try to buy some supplies for the rest of the week. Unfortunately the 1st of a new year most of the shops where closed so we ended up in a tapas restaurant we’re getting more and more familiar with!

The first days of the training we had a lot of wind and we decided to take two shorter runs on the water. Unfortunately we had a little accident at the shore, a huge gust blew our boat a bit from the trolley, so we decided to stay on the land for the rest of the day.

The next few days were characterized by nice weather, a lot of sun and nice temperatures, there was not so much wind which was good since we had wanted to train on this for a long time! From the evaluation of the competition we had realised that we lack in boat speed with light winds and swell (waves on the sea). At the end of the week the wind started dropping after 15:00 each day so we had to go in earlier than expected which was a little disappointment since we really wanted to make a lot of hours on the water. We found some nice way’s of compensating our energy surplus by doing slack line!

With tension straps from the camper we tried to build a line between the camper and a nearby van, unfortunately this didn’t really work so we went to the boulevard to find some tree’s. The result can be found here:

At the end of the week we have a good feeling about our light wind speed and we can really start to work on the details next trainings-camp. We had to remove the mast of the boat because we will not be back until the 1st of February, in the mean time we will be studying a lot, making our exams which are up until the 31st of January and we will try to find more sponsors (idea’s are welcome!). Next camp we will start training with some Polish teams and later 3 Belgium teams and a team from Ukraine will also join us, we’re looking forward to it!

Cheers Team WInD 470
