Day 2 Palamos – First water day, sailing with Dolphins!

Today was the first day of the training session in Palamos. We started the day around nine since we arrived quite late yesterday. At around eleven o´clock we were supposed to be ready, but since there was no wind at all we chilled a bit and did some small boat work.

We’re now training with the Belgium guys and with one French/Belgian team of www.vanlaersailing.be (yes the guy from the lasers etc. in Belgium) although they are a little bit older than the most of us they can really keep up the good speed, respect for that! Around 12:15 we started making lunch and decided to give it a go!

A remnant of the hard wind of yesterday and the day before, were the big  waves.  This combination of high waves and slow wind posed quite a challenge to us. It really hard to us to keep the boat flat balanced and go fast. We did a lot of speed tests and we didn’t went too bad at all, however we had some start-up problems since this our first time with these waves in this wind

After a while we could do some rounds around the French guys which gave us some confidence. This was rewarded by a dolphin that came that came to say hello, less than a boat length away! Unfortunately the wind dropped to almost zero, so we decided to make a small up-down course in the harbour to practise manoeuvres without the swell behind the wave breaker. The gods of the wind weren’t really helpful there and the wind speed dropped even more so Taco did some paddling exercise back into the harbour. After a small jogging session to the other end of the bay we called it a day!

Cheers Team WInD470
